15 healthy restaurants to try in Vancouver

You may have gathered by now that I love food, but really who doesn’t. I also love food that makes me feel energized, happy, and healthy

While I love to cook at home or with friends, it’s always nice to have someone else do the cooking for you.

Here are 15 of my favourite healthy restaurants to try in Vancouver. 


1) MELU Juice and Health Bar (Downtown Vancouver)

What to get: cold-pressed juices, vegan nut milks, superfood smoothies, hot bowls served with brown rice or zucchini noodles, overnight oats, salads, dessert bars.

My favourites: tom-yum carrot bowl on brown rice, mushroom miso bowl on zucchini noodles, cacao monkey smoothie


2) Shizen Ya Sushi (Downtown Vancouver or West Broadway) 

What to get: gluten-free brown rice or quinoa sushi, grain-free vegetarian sushi, other creative sushi rolls, fresh sashimi, curries, organic greens salads, miso soup

My favourites: salmon sashimi salad, spinach gomae, braised lotus root, spinach curry, vegan pumpkin pudding


3) Hubbub (Downtown Vancouver or Cambie and Broadway)

What to get: “life-changing” sandwiches and salads with your choice of base, protein, and sidekick

My favourites: salad bowl with citrus vinaigrette, plenty of vegetables, cilantro, pickled jalapeños and chicken marinated in citrus juices and coconut milk. Add clean slaw as a sidekick (cabbage with coconut, mint, and cilantro).

4) MeeT on Main (Gastown or Main Street)

What to get: vegan comfort food (carnivore dishes made vegetarian-friendly), salads, rice bowls, and burgers

My favourites: “chicken” wings, kale & romaine caesar, super-green salad, beet salad, macro bowl


5) Field & Social (Downtown Vancouver)

What to get: not your average salad, feel-good food. Fresh ingredients, local products, seasonally-inspired.

My favourite: baba bouleh salad (spinach, romaine, tabbouleh of Canadian millet, tomatoes, cucumbers, mint, crunchy chickpeas topped with baba ganoush)


6) Indigo Age Cafe and Kombucha Bar (Gastown) 

What to get: mostly raw vegan food, pizza, cold-pressed juices and smoothies, house-made kombucha, Ukrainian-inspired dishes. They also serve breakfast, including acai bowls and coconut yogurt parfaits.

My favourite: West Meets East Platter (raw falafel, hummus, tabbouleh, homemade salsa, marinated eggplant, curried carrots, and coconut-cashew tzatziki sauce with iceberg lettuce tacos)

7) East is East (Main Street and Kitsilano)

What to get: Afghan and Eastern food, roti rolls, chai, variety of tapas, curries, soups, and salads

My favourites: Bombay Masala roti roll (cauliflower and potato in a tangy tomato coconut curry sauce) and Ghandara Blues roti roll (baked eggplant sautéed with herbs, tomato, onion, garlic and spices)

8) The Naam (Kitsilano)

What to get: vegetarian comfort food, miso gravy, bowls, stir-fry, burger platters, salads, nachos, soups and chilli, burritos, enchiladas, smoothies

My favourites: dragon bowl (steamed veggies on brown rice with miso gravy, tofu, peanut sauce, grated carrots and beets, alfalfa sprouts and wakame) and steak platter (veggie-nut patty smothered in miso gravy and served with sesame fries and steamed veggies)


9) Nuba (multiple locations)

What to get: healthy and fresh Lebanese food for vegetarians and carnivores alike, organic and local ingredients, hormone-free meat, traditional appetizers served with pita and pickled cabbage

My favourites: Najib’s Special (crispy cauliflower tossed with lemon and sea salt, served with tahini), Baba Ghanooj and Hummus, Vegan Stew, Mjadra (green lentils and rice with onions and jalapeño)


10) Be Fresh Local (YMCA Burrard, Downtown Vancouver, Kitsilano)

What to get: meals that “nourish your body and enrich your life”, prepared and made-to-order menu items, salads, wraps and sandwiches, smoothies, coffee, baked goods, packaged snacks

My favourites: gluten-free toast with mashed avocado, gluten-free and vegan scones with cashew cream, Sunshine Kale Salad with Free Range Chicken, Detox Quinoa Salad with Free Range Chicken

11) Sejuiced (Kitsilano)

What to get: vegetarian and vegan food with a hippy vibe, bowls, wraps and sandwiches, big salads, veggies burgers, smoothies and juices

My favourites: quinoa yogi bowl with creamy peanut-carrot sauce or tahini sauce, mega-protein salad with apple ginger dressing


12) CHAU Veggie Express (East Vancouver and Granville Island) 

What to get: primarily vegan Vietnamese-inspired dishes, salads, soups, huge bowls, and rolls

My favourite: power salad (quinoa bowl with greens, steamed vegetables, fresh herbs, coconut cream and citrus dressing, roasted nuts and seeds)

13) India Bistro (West End)

What to get: Indian food with a variety of vegan, gluten-free, and vegetarian options

My favourites: chana masala, aloo gobhi, okra malasa, eggplant bhartha

14) Vancouver Art Gallery Cafe (Downtown Vancouver)

What to get: tea and coffee, baked goods and desserts made in-house daily, salads, sandwiches, homemade soups. A lovely place for meetings with a relaxed but classy vibe, classical music, and huge outdoor patio.

My favourites: homemade butternut squash soup, rare ahi tuna salad


15) Little Saigon (Yaletown)

What to get: msg-free Vietnamese cuisine made with fresh, high-quality ingredients

My favourite: build your own pho with extra vegetables
